There should be a tab when loading a Battle Simulator , to input your troops , buildings and season.

Did you know that you can double-click on either "Attacker" or "Defender" at the top of the battle simulator screen and it inputs your troops in the currently selected city?
It also works for buildings.

How do you selct a barbarian camp? all i can get is the troops in my city

Spy the camp and open the spy report, then click "load in battle simulator". After that you can double click on attacker to load your own troops in.

Thank you but that was not what I meant. I explored a little more and found out I could start the Battle Sim by clicking on the icon in the upper right in the 'View full report' tab in the Spy Report. However when I do this I can't seem to load my own troops, building, etc. but have to put them in indivvidually.
On the other hand, if I can automatically load those for my city [I can't find out how to do that again but I did at one time], I can't do a Barbarian also [I can do the above but that starts a new simulation session].

As Keshaan says, double click on the side that says attacker, in the same way on the side of the buildings and is automatically filled, the troops you have in the city are loaded from which you open the report
